Insulin isn't a cure but it is a life saver

If you’ve ever been told “at least you’ve got insulin” you’re not alone and you’re probably also tired of explaining that insulin doesn’t fix diabetes, it just helps you survive it.

As magical as this pastel vial looks, insulin is not a magic potion. For those of us with type one diabetes, it’s a daily tool that keeps us alive. But it’s not a cure. It doesn’t stop the blood sugar rollercoaster, the carb counting, or the mental load of managing a chronic condition 24/7.

Insulin lets us live, but the rest is still on us. We have to do the constant math, understand our bodies better than most people ever will, and plan everything around our blood sugars. From spontaneous days out to sleep, exercise, stress, and periods, everything affects our diabetes.

This is a love letter to the diabetic community. To those of us who make it through each day with courage, resilience, and maybe even a little sparkle. Whether you wear your insulin pump like a badge of honour or stash your glucose tabs in a cute hypo-pot, you deserve to feel seen, heard, and celebrated.
