I've got some important news to share, especially for those of us using Fiasp insulin. From April 2024, there will be a shortage of the Fiasp FlexTouch insulin pen. This could affect many of us who rely on this convenient little device. So, here's what you need to know to stay ahead of the game.
What’s the Situation?
Fiasp is a rapid-acting insulin from Novo Nordisk, and while there isn’t a shortage of the insulin itself, there will be a shortage of the FlexTouch pen that many of us use to take it. The Fiasp FlexTouch is a disposable, pre-filled pen, which is light and super handy
However, from April 2024 until January 2025, these pre-filled pens will be out of stock due to some hiccups in the manufacturing process.
Why is There a Shortage?
The shortage is all down to disruptions in the manufacturing process for the FlexTouch pens. It's one of those annoying, unavoidable things, but don't worry—there are alternatives!
What’s the Alternative?
Novo Nordisk also makes Fiasp in 100units/ml cartridges, known as Penfill, and these are still available. So, if you’re affected by the FlexTouch pen shortage, your healthcare team will likely suggest switching to these cartridges.
You'll need a reusable NovoPen to use these cartridges. Your healthcare team should provide you with a prescription for the pen device and give you a little tutorial on how to use it.
